History of Sea Island Golf Club
Ours is an evolution of three courses, all distinctively beautiful, each offering a unique experience. Open champion and eminent course architect Walter Travis was the first to put his imprint here with the original nine holes of the Plantation Course. Later, Colt & Alison - fresh from redesigning Scotland's esteemed St. Andrews - lovingly crafted another nine holes called Seaside and enhanced Travis' original Plantation concept to provide continuity. A reputation of excellence flourished: esteemed champion Bobby Jones, Jr. praised Seaside among the best nine he had ever played. Grantland Rice included the course with Pebble Beach, Winged Foot, Pinehurst and National in a filmed portrait of the best golf courses in America. Almost instantly, Sea Island was not on only on the map.it was a benchmark.
